Lonely Mountain
We are Lonely Mountain, an alternative folk-rock duo of two brothers from North Wales!
We’ve been playing music together for about a decade in various forms, having both pursued music first at school and then later at university. We jammed together at home whilst primarily focusing on our own projects as we were into quite different music growing up. Archie wrote original songs and played with a few friends in different groups whose styles varied from 60s pop rock to modern folk, whereas I (Fin) was into heavier rock and metal music, playing drums in a death metal band with some school friends.
In 2022 we co-formed an Indie Rock cover band with two friends from school and set out to play local venues and at parties, functions and events. After a successful spell of just over a year of local gigging, we were faced with what we wanted to do as a career.
I had just started university studying a music production and performance degree, and I was set on pursuing music as my career. Archie had also just graduated from university with a Music Production degree and had moved back home to decide how to pursue music himself With all of us in different places and our career aspirations not all the same, the band was put on hold.
With a couple of original songs in the works already, me and Archie decided to pursue our own music under a new name, quickly deciding on “Lonely Mountain”, which we felt perfectly captured the vibe of both our music and lifestyle
Archie (vocals, guitar)
The older brother, lead singer and primary lyricist, Archie’s vocal style has often been compared to artists like Wesley Schultz from the Lumineers or Ben Howard; a raw, emotive and expressive Tenor that defines a big part of Lonely Mountain’s sound.
Finlay (vocals, lead guitar, banjo, percussion)
The younger brother, writing a lot of the music, riffs, arrangements and contributing to lyrics and melodies with a low baritone warmth that contrasts his brothers voice and provides a different option for backing vocals and occasional lead vocal parts.
The North Wales area has been a big inspiration for us. The mountains and the coastal environment has provided the perfect location for photo and video shoots, as well as inspiring the name Lonely Mountain.
We call our sound “Alternative Folk” or “Folk-Rock”. Our main inspirations that have helped to define our sound are modern indie and alternative artists like the Lumineers, early Ben Howard, Mumford and Sons, Colter Wall and Bon Iver.
